Despite signing for J. Cole’s Dreamville Records back in 2015, North Carolina rapper Lute has only now released his debut project with the label. “West 1996 Pt.2” is a sequel to his 2012 mixtape “West 1996”, which is what initially caught the attention of Cole who eventually signed him to the label 3 years later.

On this project Lute proves he’s capable of becoming a star under J. Cole’s wing at Dreamville Records, which is also home to many budding artists like J.I.D, Cozz, EarthGang, Bas, Omen, and Ari Lennox. The aforementioned EarthGang make an appearance on the tape alongside producer/singer Cam O’bi, while Dreamville’s in house producer Elite also contributes to one of the project’s 11 tracks.
